If you have received Reiki before, you probably remember lying still on the table, eyes closed, simply receiving. That quiet, restful experience is a beautiful part of Reiki. Somatic Reiki keeps Reiki at the center, but it also makes room for something more: your body, your history, and whatever is present for you on the day you arrive.
Here is a little of what you can expect when you come in for your first session.
We start by arriving
Before any hands-on work begins, we take time to settle in. You might notice your breath, the feeling of your feet on the floor, or the details of the room around you. This kind of grounding and orienting helps your nervous system register that you are here, now, and that you have choices.
You are an active participant
In a traditional Reiki session, you rest and let the energy do its work. In Somatic Reiki, Reiki acts as an anchor and a guide while you take a more active role. Throughout the session you are welcome to move, talk, make sounds, open your eyes, change positions, sit up, use self touch, or visualize. None of this is required. It is simply available to you.
Choice and consent come first
You decide what feels right for your body. We check in along the way, and you can ask for a change, a pause, or a different approach at any time. Your yes and your no are both welcome here.
Everything you feel is allowed
Some people feel deeply calm. Others notice emotion, tears, shaking, or sensations they did not expect. Some simply are not sure what they feel, and that is okay too. The goal is never to force a release. It is to create the conditions where you can feel supported, connected, and more at home in yourself.
After your session
Give yourself a little space afterward if you can. Drink some water, move slowly, and notice what stays with you over the next day or two. Many people find it helpful to jot down a few words about what they experienced.
If you are curious whether Somatic Reiki is right for you, we would love to hear from you.
